With his stellar Vancouver group, Canadian jazz guitar master Elliot Freedman brings his distinctive compositional voice and unique approach on baritone guitar to the Attic.
Adding to Freedman's sophisticated harmonic perspective, vibraphonist Nick Apivor adds a luminous counterpoint that expands the group’s tonal spectrum and sensitivities to tension.
On piano with the group is the virtuoso pianist John Stetch (johnstetch.com), whose command of & creativity in & beyond things jazz & classical enhances Freedman's already complex, but eminently tuneful compositions. Bassist Dan Howard and drummer Paul Mason combine into a texturally-aware rhythm section that shifts between subtlety and muscular momentum.
Together, the group expresses a strong identity, as it moves fluidly between themes and improvisation through Freedman's non-canonical sense of jazz harmony.
