Join author and professor Elizabeth Quinlan for the Saskatoon launch of Standing Up To Big Nickel: The Story of the Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers' Strike, 1958 (McGill-Queen's University Press).This event will be held in-person in the Travel Alcove.
In 1958, 14,000 miners and smeltermen in Sudbury, Ontario, downed their tools and struck against the International Nickel Company, a corporate titan of the mining industry. Standing Up to Big Nickel is the first comprehensive portrait of a pivotal strike by the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers.
Elizabeth Quinlan is professor of sociology at the University of Saskatchewan.
