Instructor: May LucasSkill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Part of the Elegant Dinnerware Series — attend all four sessions to create a complete handmade dinnerware set. Could you wrap up your dinnerware series with a show-stopping footed platter? In this class, you’ll hand-build a large serving piece and decorate it using tissue transfer designs for layered surface interest. Add personality with handmade sprig-mold handles for a refined, finished look. Whether you use it for entertaining or as a statement piece in your kitchen, this platter will truly reflect your creative voice.
Students will hand build with clay, adding texture, color, treatments, and design. Students will select a glaze color from the available selection provided. The instructor will refine the work, bisque fire the student's work, refine it again, apply the glaze, and then glaze fire the work. The instructor will refine it a third time before returning it to the Guild for pickup and distribution to the students for take-home. All glazes are food safe. May will fire the work at her home studio and return it to the Guild for pickup. Students will be notified when the pieces are ready to be picked up, which is expected to be within 2-3 weeks of the
class.
All tools and materials needed for the project, to include but not limited to, clay, underglazes, sprig molds, vinyl resist, texture tools, tissue transfers, glaze, bisque firing, glaze firing, and pottery refinement.
This class is appropriate for students 16 years and older.
