Schedule of Programs
January 7, 2025: Go with the Flow
Where is water in nature and what does it do? We’ll discover water in surprising places and learn about the diversity of plants and animals that depend upon water for their survival. Key Concepts: water cycle, habitat
January 14, 2025: Mighty Tiny Wetland Creatures
We’ll look for the smaller, yet important, creatures that live in the water. We’ll explore their connections in the food web and how they are indicators of good habitat. Key Concepts: human impact on nature, adaptation, insects
January 21, 2025: Plants with Wet Feet
Join an ELC instructor as they put on waders and head into the water channel. We'll discover how wetland plants provide habitat to wildlife and help to clean the water. Key Concepts: human impact on nature, adaptation
January 28, 2025: Beavers - Nature’s Builders
We’ll learn about beavers’ adaptations for living in and around water and how their dam-building benefits other wetland creatures. Key concepts: adaptation, bodies of water, interrelationships, diversity
February 4, 2025: Animal Homes
The wetland is home to many creatures. We’ll explore the wetland for all aspects of an animal’s home or habitat: food, water, shelter, and space and meet some wildlife along the way. Key concepts: habitat, food webs, interrelationships
February 11, 2025: Wetland Wildlife in Winter
Winter at the ELC is about survival for our resident wildlife. We’ll go on a wetland wildlife hunt to find animal and plant friends and learn about their adaptations for the season. Key concepts: adaptation, habitat, survival strategies
February 18, 2025: Duck, Duck, No Goose
Mallards are frequently seen at the ELC. Join us to discover how the wetland provides habitat to this common and beautiful bird. Key concepts: adaptation, habitat, survival strategies
February 25, 2025: Nature’s Recyclers
The cycle of life includes the decomposition of things that die. We’ll meet some decomposers and learn about the important role they play in nature. Key concepts: decomposition, food web, changes in the environment
March 4, 2025: Water Check-up
We’ll give the water in the wetland a check-up by measuring the temperature to discover if it is in the “Goldilocks” zone of supporting a rich diversity of life. Key concepts: human impact on nature, adaptation
March 11, 2025: Water on the Move
A guest from Clackamas Water Environment Services will help us visualize water flowing through the channel by putting dye in the creek. Students will observe the dye move through the wetland and experiment with water flows. Key concepts: human impact on nature, engineering design
Student Activity Sheets accompany each episode and are designed to engage students in the Livestream program.
Extend the learning with a hands-on field trip at the ELC!
The Livestream programs compliment on-site school field trips to the ELC. Teachers can use the Livestream to:
- Introduce your students to the ELC and prepare them for a field trip
- Reinforce key concepts covered during a field trip
- Engage your students in learning more about local wildlife
