Spend an afternoon immersed in creativity and storytelling with visiting artist Carrie Moran McCleary, the current Artist in Residence at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis.
1–2 p.m. Artist talk, Learn more about Carrie’s artistic journey, creative philosophy, and evolving practice, followed by an open Q+A session, Martin Commons, second floor
2–4 p.m. Enjoy hands-on artist programming and a rare look at selected objects from the museum’s collections.
Carrie Moran McCleary is a fashion designer, beader, and doll maker from the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe. She lives on the Crow Reservation in Montana. In 2016, she founded Plains Soul to share her unique style and artistry with a wider audience. Moran McCleary is known for Indigenizing everyday items, transforming thrift-store finds and hand-me-downs into works of art that express her identity. Taught by her mothers to bead and sew, she then developed her own style that infuses traditional practices with contemporary design.
All of these activities are free and open to the public. This program is co-organized by the IU First Nations Educational and Cultural Center and the Eskenazi Museum of Art, with support from the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.
