Our friends from the Ambler Arboretum will be onsite to give a short presentation on the Arboretum before the film. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: Director Tim Burton brings this modern gothic fairytale to life. Johnny Depp plays Edward, the beloved disfigured creation of an inventor who lives on the outskirts of an idyllic suburb. Where the neighborhood doesn’t quite know what to make of him. A wildly creative and touching story that has become a cult hit since its initial release.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲: Danny Elfman’s work is some of the most recognizable of film composers working today. His musical scores are notably influenced by the composers of Hollywood's Golden Age, and also incorporate elements of jazz, experimental music, and minimalism. We chose to spotlight EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, Elfman's fourth collaboration with director Tim Burton. The magical quality of the score, characterized by exquisite choral arrangements intertwined with orchestral melodies, complements Burton's gothic visuals. The influence of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, known for his ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, is evident in Elfman's composition for the film. Scissorhands presents a delicate and tender musical landscape that underscores the film's narrative and symbolic elements. In 2005, a contemporary dance adaptation of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS for the stage premiered, with contributions from Elfman.
