The City of Burnaby is conducting an Edmonds Speed and Traffic Management Study to better understand speed and traffic concerns and identify potential improvements for the area bounded by Edmonds Street, Kingsway Avenue, Canada Way and the New Westminster border. The goal is to enhance road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists while preserving neighbourhood liveability. As sustained development growth continues in the city and across the region, local and regional traffic volumes have increased, posing access and operational challenges for residents within the neighbourhood. This study is aligned with council-adopted goals and objectives within Connecting Burnaby: Burnaby’s Transportation Plan and coincides with significant cycling infrastructure upgrades in the area through the Edmonds Town Centre Cycling Network Project, which aims to create a connected and safe cycling network that is suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities.
The project will be undertaken in two phases. Phase 1 is taking place from now until October 2024, where the project team will focus on gathering speed and traffic-related concerns from the community. Phase 2 is scheduled for November to December 2024, where the project team will present findings from Phase 1 and share the proposed speed and traffic management measures.
Share your voice by taking our Phase 1 survey by October 1, 2024. https://ow.ly/XwQw50Thwy8
