Location: Room 1208Enrico Berkes is the Pausch Assistant Professor of Economics at UMBC (Ph.D., Northwestern). His research sits at the intersection of the economics of innovation, urban economics, and applied microeconomics, using historical and modern data to study how knowledge diffuses, how local conditions shape inventive activity, and how technology waves influence regional growth. His work appears in AEJ: Applied Economics (2023), The Economic Journal (2021), Nature (2022), and Science Advances (2022), with a paper on the 1918 flu and innovation forthcoming in Review of Economics and Statistics. Current projects examine technological waves and local growth, Carnegie libraries’ effects on knowledge access, and global innovation spillovers.
The seminar is open to the public, students and faculty from all disciplines are encouraged to attend.
