Welcome back to the Eclipsed Shadows Society - horror film club! Everyone with an interest in horror, cinema, film theory, storytelling and visual analysis is welcome to join.
Second meeting:
24.10 Friday 16:00-18:00 at the Tampere Intercultural Art space, Pirkankatu 5.
Together we choose and discuss various themes and sub-genres of horror, while also focusing on specific scenes from the selected films, which will be shown as short clips during the meetings. The purpose is not to settle on one “correct” interpretation, but to open up dialogue and explore multiple ways of reading these films.
The goal of this horror film club is to bring film theory out of the academic sphere and into a relaxed, community-oriented space. Coffee and snacks will be served!
Daria is a visual artist and photographer with a passion for films (especially horror). She started the Eclipsed Shadows Society two years ago to share how horror films can be a tool for self-discovery, as well as a way to dig deeper into their meaning once we move past the initial shock factor or haunting narratives. Her BA thesis focused on the visual language of female horror characters, bringing in psychoanalytic theory to further connect to the symbolism depicted.
The second theme of this season is Jungian concepts in horror, and we'll be discussing The Babadook (2014 dir. Jennifer Kent) and Hour of The Wolf (1968 dir. Ingmar Bergman).
