About this Event
Perhaps the best recorded event from Roman Britain, the story of Boudica’s rebellion against Roman rule in AD 60 remains frustratingly vague and incomplete. Archaeology has filled in some of the gaps and can tell the intimate stories of individuals caught up in the turmoil, particularly in the destroyed towns of Camulodunum (Cirencester), Londinium (London) and Verulamium (St Albans). But what of the wider landscape? Drawing together all of the available evidence and exploring the locations where these events (sometimes certainly, sometimes perhaps) played out, Echolands is the story of a personal journey through the British landscape in search of a single moment in the ancient past.
Duncan McKay is writer, archaeologist and independent researcher with a lifelong interest in Boudica. He worked as a field archaeologist for many years, mostly with the Cambridge Archaeological Trust.
