Echoes Lit Fest Author Dialogues
About this Event
Brian Chikwava’s latest novel Shamiso is a tender coming-of-age story that examines selfhood, love and the many forms family can take.
It follows Shamiso as she moves first from rural Zimbawe to bustling Harare, and then leaves Zimbabwe to study art in Brighton. Here she falls in love with George, sometimes Georgie, whose gender fluidity mirrors Shamiso’s own shapeshifting heart as a woman caught between her desire to belong and profound yearning to find herself.
At this event, Brian Chikwava will discuss Shamiso with writer Davina Quinlivan, exploring questions of language, love, voice and belonging, followed by an audience Q&A.
‘Shamiso is a jewel of a novel that dazzles with ideas on migration, grief, love, time, language and meaning, so economically written that repeat reads are not only rewarded but demanded. It’s a pleasure to read a novel in which such care and consideration is given to each word, each moment’ MENDEZ, AUTHOR OF RAINBOW MILK
Shamiso will be on sale at the event, and Brian Chikwava will be there to sign
