About this Event
We are The Conservation Volunteers
We bring people together to create, improve and care for green spaces. From local parks and community gardens to Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest; from school grounds and hospital grounds to waterways, wetlands and woodlands; we connect people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community.
Pocket Forest Creation, Orchard Park South - What3words meeting point: ///deal.value.aspect
Together with the Friends of Orchard Park we're creating a new Pocket Forest, more than this we're trying to create a pocket ecosystem. Alongside planting Scottish native tree and shrub species we'll be sowing a mixture of meadow and shade associated wildflower seeds and enclosing the area with a dead hedge. The aim is to create the broad mix of habitats that would be associated within a woodland area.
What to expect
Volunteers will recieve an introduction to what Pocket Forests are and how they've been developed from the Miyawaki method for creating forests followed by a tool talk and health and safety briefing. Then it's time to roll up your sleeves and dig in.
Tasks required:
- Site preparation
- Soil enrichment
- Tree planting
- Wilflower sowing
- Deadhedge creation
Time for a cuppa!
We'll make sure there are plenty of hot drinks and biscuits for all that come along, even if its just to lend some moral support.
All equipment will be provided. New volunteers are required to complete a basic TCV welfare form before attending, email: [email protected] to request one.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.
