eat.sleep.jazz presents Audiophile April!Witness the "no-rehearsal" miracle of 1957. Join Teddy for the story of Art Pepper’s high-stakes session with Miles Davis’s legendary rhythm section, followed by a full-album play on high-fidelity vinyl. Experience West Coast cool meeting East Coast heat.
The backstory of this session is as dramatic as the music itself: Pepper arrived at the studio with a broken instrument and zero preparation, yet delivered a career-defining performance. We'll explore the incredible cohesion provided by Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones, who acted as a sophisticated engine for Pepper’s lyrical alto sax. We’ll discuss the tension between Pepper’s vulnerable melodic sensibility and the aggressive swing of the New York jazz elite.
Teddy will be spinning a state of the art release. It's a 2 disc, UHQR 45rm pressing, on 200 gram vinyl, mastered from the original master tape by Bernie Grunmand, and pressed on Clarity Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings.
Every Wednesday night in April host Teddy Dibble will present a super hi-fidelity audiophile pressing of a legendary Jazz album. Grab a drink and settle in for a deep, uninterrupted listen.
