About this Event
East Midlands Deanery in association with Child Bereavement UK, invite you to this collaborative study day. Held at Rainbows, Lark Rise, Loughborough, Leicestershire LE11 2HS on Friday 8 May 2026.
Audience: Any trainees withing the East Midlands at all levels of training, including those working in General or Speciality Paediatrics, ED, Paediatric Critical Care and Neonatal Intensive Care across the Region.
Learning Outcomes:
· Increase understanding of the experience and perspective of families from the point of diagnosis of a life-limiting illness whether acute or chronic.
· Develop greater confidence in communicating with and supporting family members anticipating the death of a child
· Increase understanding of the family preparing for the death of a child and grieving for a child who has died.
· Develop confidence in communicating with and supporting families after a child has died
· Consider the experience and perspective of families when a child dies suddenly
· Increase awareness of the processes that follow the death of a child and the impact these may have on families (including Child Death Review, the role of the coroner and paediatric post mortem examination)
· Increase awareness of the challenges of this work and the importance of self-care.
· Receive information about Child Bereavement UK, other support organisations and resources.
PLEASE NOTE:
This course is a full day interactive course. Lunch, tea & coffee will be provided.
