About this Event
Celebrate Earth Day in North Richmond!
Join The Watershed Project (TWP) this Earth Day to plant two planter areas in the newly renovated Shields-Reid Park! As part of the statewide Outdoors for All initiative, this park was redesigned with input from the community and includes features that neighbors most wanted, including an outdoor stage to host North Richmond’s historic blues music festival, and a bike pump track to help local youth try out their bike skills. Learn more about this great project here.
TWP worked with the community to design and install a large pollinator garden and bioswale to create beautiful year-round native flowers to keep our pollinators and community happy. To complement the large native plant garden, we will be planting a selection of herbs and edible native plants in raised beds for anyone in the community to harvest and enjoy.
Activities will include a workshop about how to use native plants in your home gardens and kitchen, and a hands-on planting in the garden itself. This planting event will start at 9:30am and finish up around 12pm. Once planting activities conclude, stop by the official Earth Day festival to enjoy live music, free food, a petting zoo, games, and a day of fun dedicated to our planet!
All ages welcome, and gloves and tools will be provided.
