Our Spring session of classes starts back later this month, and we're bringing back some of our favorite classes from years past, to introduce to our newer batch of students!Our Earth Art classes may include elements of earth science, art history, artistic skill and technique building, while getting to use many quality art materials and sometimes natural items hand selected straight from the outdoors. Our focus is often on learning where our materials are coming from and how to use them to create.
Class dates for Spring session are: Wednesdays 1/22, 2/26, 3/12, and 4/16, 11:00am-Noon.
* January 22- Leather Tooling
* February 26- Gyotaku (fish prints)
* March 12- Charcoal
* April 16- Earth Paints
Leather Tooling: We'll talk about how leather is made and the uses for the material. We'll then hand stamp and dye an item of the students choice (necklace, key chain, coaster, or bookmark).
Gyotaku (fish) Printing: We'll discuss this ancient art form, where it originated from and why, and then combine various paint types to create a finished fish print, complete with a makers stamp inspired by the Japanese Hanko stamp.
Charcoal: We'll discuss how it's made, uses for it both inside and outside of art, & drawing techniques. We will also talk a bit about the history of it, survival applications, and good foraging practices. This is a fun and messy medium, and doesn't require much precision, and students will love getting to test out different types of charcoal in this hands-on class. A related story may also be included. We suggest wearing dark colors and/or older clothing this day!
Handmade Earth Paints: We'll discuss the process and benefits of making homemade paints from the earth, material choices, and binders. We will then hand-crush some pigments together and paint with them.
Cost: $70 for the set of 4 classes (discounted). Individual classes, if space allows, will be $20 each. At this time, classes can only be registered for as the set. If session does not fill, then individual classes may be opened for registration. We have a VERY limited number of spaces for the full session, and classes 1 & 2, due to a smaller class size because of the topic and hands-on nature of the projects.
Registration: Advance registration is required. We are having some technology issues with our normal registration process, so our temporary registration method is to please EMAIL US at [email protected] with your students name(s) who you would like to register, a contact phone #, and an email address you'd like us to send a PayPal request to, to complete your registration and reserve a spot for your student(s). We apologize for the extra step in this process as we work to figure out the issue.
Location: The PEA Studio (located inside Champion Kids in the White Hawk Business Park), 1465 Canton Rd. Suite 100, Marietta, GA 30066. (Classes at this location are drop-off. Parents may take younger siblings to the gym for Open Play time depending on the Open Play schedule, read at the tables outside the studio room (indoors), run errands, or hop across the street to the coffee shop.)
Additional info: This set of classes are mixed-age and geared towards students ages 6-12 years old. If this is your first class with us (or your first with US at the PEA Studio prior to 2024), please plan to arrive 5 minutes early to fill out paperwork before dropping your student off.
