Late talkers are children who show delays in language development compared to their peers but do not exhibit other developmental delays. If your toddler is experiencing late language emergence, here's a guide to help you understand and support their development.

Late Language Emergence (LLE): This term refers to a delay in language development. Typically, children with LLE may not have a vocabulary of 50 words or may not be combining words into two-word phrases by 24 months.

Causes: The causes can be varied and may include genetic factors, hearing impairments, or other developmental delays.

Signs to Look For:

• Limited vocabulary for their age
• Difficulty understanding or following simple instructions
• Reduced interest in social interactions or play involving communication
  

Enhance Language Development: We will discuss how to implement methods to enhance your child's language skills by using strategies to boost word production and by creating more opportunities for them to practice speaking throughout daily routines.

When to Seek Help: Consult a pediatrician or a Speech Language Pathologist if your child:

• Has fewer than 50 words by 24 months
• Isn’t combining words by 24 to 30 months
• Shows limited interest in communicating

Professional Intervention: Early intervention can be crucial. A Speech Language Pathologist can provide structured and tailored support for your child’s language development.
