About this Event
A relaxed, welcoming walk to explore South Ealing, meet others, and reflect on what makes a place feel safe and inclusive.
We’ll meet at the entrance to South Ealing Cemetery at 11:00am and begin with a short introduction before setting off on a gentle two-hour walk through the area.
We’ll start by walking through the cemetery itself, taking in its peaceful setting and pausing at a few notable graves, before continuing between its two sections and heading towards South Ealing Road.
From there, we’ll explore the heart of South Ealing — stopping at key points such as the crossroads with Popes Lane and Little Ealing Lane to reflect on the area’s history and how it has changed. Along the way, we’ll notice a mix of old and new: local shops and cafés, community spaces, and places of cultural significance including the Assyrian Society Centre (formerly the Good Shepherd Mission Hall), the Acton Recycling Community shop, and traces of earlier Polish community life.
We’ll pass South Ealing Station and look towards nearby Northfields Station, before turning into a quieter green space called Maytrees Rest Garden and continuing along an ancient track towards Church Gardens with their almshouses and a Welsh school.
The walk will lead us to the original Ealing village with St Mary's Church, the oldest church in Ealing; St Mary’s Square with the Old Fire Station and nearby pubs: the Rose & Crown and the New Inn. Maybe we will be able to visit the church?
If time and energy allow, we may look towards some of the area’s oldest surviving buildings before an optional chill and chat at a former coaching inn.

A walk with a purpose
This is the third and final walk in the Ealing series, part of the wider Your Voice Your Town programme funded by Ealing Council, with walks also taking place in Greenford, Northolt and Perivale.
The Ealing project focuses on a shared goal: helping people feel safe, connected and welcome in their local area.
As we walk, we’ll gently reflect on questions such as:
• What makes a place feel safe or comfortable?
• Are there areas that feel less accessible or welcoming?
• How do different people experience the same space?
There’s no pressure to speak — you’re welcome to simply listen, observe and enjoy the walk.

What makes these walks different
Since 2016, Talking and Exploring has been bringing people together through walks that focus on both place and people.
For this project, we also:
• welcome local residents, newcomers, and visitors alike
• reach out to those who may feel less confident, isolated or new to the area
• connect with local businesses, community and faith groups where possible
• create space for conversation, shared experience and new connections

After the walk
We’ll finish with an optional café or pub stop — a chance to rest, chat and continue the conversation in a relaxed setting.
You’ll also be invited to share your thoughts afterwards. Your feedback helps build a better understanding of how people experience Ealing and contributes to wider community insight.
