Talk 1
Anti-Patterns in Testing
Every professional faces repeating tasks at work, and proven templates with standard approaches often help solve them faster and better. But not everything that looks like a “solution” actually improves the process. Sometimes practices that seem convenient can turn into harmful patterns.
In this talk, we will discuss:
Typical repeating approaches in testing and why some of them become anti-patterns.
Real-world examples that reveal the hidden risks behind such decisions.
When established patterns genuinely help and where similar approaches in testing can cause more harm than good.
For each anti-pattern, Dmitrii will share possible solutions based on his own experience and lessons learned from real projects. The session will also explore how modern AI systems analyze these problems and what solutions they would suggest, comparing AI-generated recommendations with practical industry experience.
This talk will be particularly valuable for QA Managers, Senior QA Engineers, Test Leads, and anyone involved in building, improving, or scaling quality assurance processes within their teams.
Speaker: Dmitrii Iakin
Senior QA Engineer, RingCentral
Dmitrii Iakin is a Quality Assurance engineer with more than a decade of experience in software testing and quality engineering. Throughout his career, he has worked with desktop, web, and mobile applications, as well as payment terminals, retail hardware, analytics platforms, and backend services.
Currently, Dmitrii works at RingCentral, where he is responsible for backend testing within the Analytics department.
In addition to his engineering work, Dmitrii has contributed to the development of QA communities in Yekaterinburg and Tbilisi and participated in the Russian translation of testing books by Jerry Weinberg and Lee Copeland. He has spoken at SQA Days and participated in several Heisenbug conferences, sharing practical experience in testing and quality engineering.
Talk 2
Craftdriver: Browser Automation on WebDriver Standards
Craftdriver is a browser automation library for Node.js built directly on top of WebDriver standards.
In this talk, we will discuss why WebDriver and WebDriver BiDi are important for real browser automation, and how open standards make automation more democratic, more sustainable, and not tied to a single company’s ecosystem.
We will also look at what modern browser automation needs today: good developer ergonomics, semantic locators, auto-waiting, session management, network mocking, mobile emulation, and accessibility testing.
Through practical examples, Dimitar will show how Craftdriver supports these scenarios and more, while also shipping with AI tooling such as a CLI, MCP server, and packaged skills.
This talk will be useful for QA engineers, automation engineers, developers, test leads, and anyone interested in modern web testing, WebDriver BiDi, and browser automation architecture.
The main message of the talk is simple: tools come and go, but understanding their architecture helps us make better choices. Craftdriver is Dimitar’s attempt to combine Playwright-like ergonomics, W3C standards compliance, and AI tooling in one browser automation library.
Speaker: Dimitar Topuzov
QA Architect, Progress
Dimitar Topuzov is QA Architect at Progress and has 15+ years of experience in quality engineering. He is experienced in testing web, mobile, desktop, and a variety of backend systems.
He is passionate about building effective automation, CI/CD processes, and increasing the productivity of engineering teams.
