Durham Pagan Moot
Welcoming the Ancestors with Dr Jennifer Uzzell
£5 donation
Durham Pagan Moot is honoured to welcome Dr Jennifer Uzzell for an evening exploring modern British Druidry and its relationship with death, ancestry, memory, and continuity.
In this thought-provoking talk, Jennifer will guide us through ideas surrounding Ancestors and relationship-building with those who have gone before us, alongside discussions on modern Barrows, ritual practice, and emerging approaches to death care — including the growing conversation around human composting.
Drawing from both academic research and lived experience within the Pagan community, this evening invites us to reflect on how modern Druids and Pagans engage with remembrance, sacred landscapes, grief, and the continuing bonds between the living and the dead.
Dr Jennifer Uzzell holds a PhD from the Centre for Death and Life Studies at Durham University, where her research focused on the ritualisation of death among modern British Druids and the wider Pagan community. She is also the Education and Youth Manager for the Pagan Federation and co-director of a progressive funeral home in the Northeast of England.
Jennifer has contributed widely to Pagan scholarship, with published work exploring Druidry, ancestry, sacred sites, online ritual, and contemporary Pagan religious experience. Her work combines deep academic insight with a grounded understanding of modern Pagan practice and community.
This promises to be a rich, reflective, and engaging evening, opening space for conversation around ancestry, memory, ritual, and what it means to honour those who came before us.
Come and share in the discussion, listen deeply, and explore the unseen threads that connect us across generations.
All are welcome.
Doors open: 7:00 pm
Evening begins: 7:30 pm (with a short talk or activity)
Venue: Upstairs at The Head of Steam, Durham
When: Every 1st Tuesday of the month
Donation £5 on the door (well in the cauldron in the table)
