In the inspiring space of ArtX Contemporary, the eclectic music of Duo Takinai presents music from Latin America, Eastern Mediterranean and East Asia – surrounded by the vibrant and abstract paintings and sculptures of internationally recognized artist Fulgencio Lazo. His art work is an exploration of cultural identity and the power of community.
Takinai is a mix of two words, the Quechua (Bolivian indigenous language) word “Takina” meaning “music”, and the Chinese word “ai 爱” meaning “love.” Joined by the love for music, Duo Takinai, Guo Ke and Reynaldo Ruiz, bring their own distinct cultural heritages and musical backgrounds, offering interpretations with a wide variety of instruments such as the Andean and Asian flutes, world percussion, guitar, harp, piano, and qanun.
