Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking method that involves scratching an image into a plate with a pointed tool. These lines create a burr that holds ink and gives the resulting prints a velvety or fuzzy appearance.
In keeping with the Waste to Art Exhibition this beginnerโs Drypoint printmaking workshop will be using eco-friendly tetra packs as a printing plate. Participants will explore, experiment, and gain fundamental understanding and skills needed to create a print. This workshop is suitable for adults and young people over 12 years old.
Printmaking techniques and processes include:
>> Use mark making techniques line, hatching, cross hatching and stippling to create simple yet interesting designs.
>> Transfer and incise image into the plate.
>> Register plate and paper.
>> Ink and wipe the plate.
>> Print plate.
Although all materials are provided participants are encouraged to bring along their own small sketches / images to create unique designs that can be traced onto an A6 (105mm x 148mm) size tetra plate. Basic drawing skills are an advantage but not essential as some design stimulus and stencils will be available.
