Many theories exist regarding why dry needling (DN) may be effective in reducing musculoskeletal pain complaints (not to be confused with acupuncture). In this course, those theories will be introduced and explained with a bias towards the neurological effect of using thin fusiform needles to treat musculoskeletal pain. Comprehensive evaluation strategies will be taught to assist the clinician in understanding what structures may benefit from DN to assist in the reduction of the client’s pain.
Surface anatomy of the most common areas associated with pain syndromes such as sensitive “trigger points” associated with these syndromes, but also rotator cuff and biceps related problems, cervicalgia, tennis elbow, low back pain, lateral hip and gluteal pain, hamstring/quadriceps strain; knee pain, and calf pain will be reviewed. Participants, following strict safety guidelines, will learn how to use the needle to treat these areas, along with judicious use of electrical stimulation.
This practical course is open to physiotherapists and physicians.
