About this Event

Join us for this one-day drawing symposium held in assocation with the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London on Thursday 17 September from 11am to 5pm.

The 2026 symposium, Drawing | Undercurrents, will explore drawing and its place as a creative practice and its capacity to raise and address complex issues, feelings and different perspectives to the surface and into wider consciousness.

This one-day symposium offers an inclusive and dynamic exploration of drawing – that combines hearing from an array of inspiring drawing experts, artists and educators who have drawing at the heart of their practice - and includes active drawing sessions led by:

Alice Angus, Artist, currently Artist- in-Residence at The Topolski Studio, London;

Siân Bowen, Artist, Professor Emerita of Drawing at the Arts University Bournemouth, and exhibitor in the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026;

Chloe Briggs, Artist, Educator, founder of Drawing is Free;

Matthew Burrows MBE, Artist, Founder of Artist Support Pledge, a Selector of Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026;

Curtis Holder, Artist;

Tania Kovats, Artist & Professor Emerita of Drawing and Making at the University of Dundee ;

Anita Taylor, Artist, Educator, Professor of Fine Art at the University of Dundee, founder of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize & Drawing Projects UK, and a selector of Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026.

Following an introduction to the day by Professor Anita Taylor, there will be presentations by each speaker, six practical drawing sessions to choose from led by the speakers, opportunities to ask questions and discuss drawings, and a plenary session. You will also get to see the 92 drawings included in theTrinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 exhibition on its first day with two of the artists, two of the selectors, and the author of the education pack.

Please bring along your sketchbook, notebooks and dry drawing materials - and settle in for this immersive day exploring drawing in its many forms in the context of Trinity Buoy Wharf and the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 exhibition. There will be opportunity to visit the exhibition during the day and at the end of the event.

Please note that no catering is provided, participants are welcome to bring your own lunch and picnic on site, and there are two cafes in close proximity - Orchard Cafe at Trinity Buoy Wharf and Layer's Bakery on Orchard Place - for lunch, coffe, tea etc.

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 is open to the public at Trinity Buoy Wharf from Thursday 17th September - Sunday 4th October and is open daily from 11am to 6pm. Free entry.

A programme of events - including this symposium as well as drawing sessions and drawing discussions - accompany the exhibition and take place at Trinity Buoy Wharf and online. A special event for educators with Anita Taylor & Chloe Briggs follows on from this event and may be booked separately. There is a fully illustrated publication and education pack available.
