The goal of this class is to learn ways to produce a well thought out plan for making a painting, using light to dark values to compose and develop a strong final composition. Students will rehearse in their minds the steps of how to develop a landscape painting. They will rehearse on paper their painting by making a small black and white drawing of the final composition to paint. Finally, on canvas, students will draw their final line drawing lightly, and begin lightly painting the background-first with thin / watered down paint and without many details. Then continue by painting the foreground while leaving the background light, and undetailed, and finally finishing the foreground and final touches until complete. Please bring printed reference photos, ideally 8 1/2" x 11" copies of different landscapes that appeal to you.
