Downtown Kitchener Food Systems Walking Tour
About this Event
Join the Waterloo Region Food Sovereignty Partnership for an interactive walking tour exploring food, community, land and local action in Downtown Kitchener.
Along the route, you'll visit local gardens, community food initiatives, historic places and other sites connected to food in the city. At each stop, you'll hear from people connected to the place and their work and be invited to reflect on possibilities for the future of food in Waterloo Region.
Choose how you'd like to explore
Explore at your own pace (anytime between 4:30-7pm)
Drop in anytime during the event and follow a map to participating locations throughout Downtown Kitchener. People will be stationed at each stop during designated times to share their stories and answer questions.
Join the guided walking tour (5-7pm)
Prefer to explore together? Join us for one guided tour through the route. For the guided tour, meet promptly at 5pm at Community Healthcaring KW (44 Francis St S, Kitchener). The guided tour will be approximately 2-hours. Light refreshments will be provided at the start of the tour.
Participants will receive a map and small notebook to capture observations, questions and ideas along the way. A digital StoryMap will also bring together the places and stories featured in the tour.
Come back to our home base
Community Healthcaring KW will be our home base throughout the evening. Stop by before or after your walk for light refreshments, conversation and an opportunity to learn about food sovereignty initiatives happening across Waterloo Region.
Partnership and community organizations will also be sharing their work at information tables throughout the evening.
Who is this for?
Everyone is welcome. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of food sovereignty or the local food system, just bring your curiosity, comfortable walking shoes and an interest in exploring Downtown Kitchener in a different way.
The event will run rain or shine. More information about the walking route, accessibility and what to expect will be shared on this Eventbrite page and with registered participants before the event.
