If you have participated in our Dowell Peninsula History Project's Walking Tours, you won't want to miss this tour aboard the Wm. B. Tennison on Saturday, August 15, 4:30 - 6 p.m.
Ron Clark, member of the Dowell Peninsula History Project committee, local historian, storyteller, and lifelong resident of the Dowell Peninsula, will offer a unique perspective of the peninsula from creek side. Once aboard the Tennison we will explore Back Creek, Mill Creek, and St. Johns Creek, all while discovering the unique stories and history of the peninsula and the families who lived there.
$35/person - 90 minute tour - Lite Fare, sodas, and water will be served
Advance ticket required. No ticket sales at check-in. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.
Park at Calvert Marine Museum and check-in under the Drum Point Lighthouse at 4:15 p.m.
Enter through the gate next to the stage; you do not need to enter the Museum.
Should foul weather force the cancellation of the tour, please consider your ticket purchase as a donation to Annmarie Garden / Dowell Peninsula History Project.
Tour will be recorded for Dowell Peninsula History Project preservation.
About the Dowell Peninsula History Project
Since its inception in November of 2022, the Dowell Peninsula History Project has sought to engage our immediate local area in collecting, organizing, and exploring our community history. Members of the community have interviewed local citizens about their memories and experiences of living and working on the peninsula. The committee has also organized and hosted scanning parties, walking tours, and participated in local projects and conferences in an effort to archive important historical documents and photographs relevant to our area history. About the Wm. B. Tennison
Wm. B. Tennison is a nine-log sailing bugeye hull converted to powered buy-boat, official number 081674. She is home ported at Back Creek, Solomons Harbor, Solomons, Calvert County, Maryland. The Tennison was built in 1899 by Frank Laird at Crabb Island (near Oriole), Maryland. She is 60 feet, 6 inches long on deck, has a beam of 17 feet, 6 inches and a draft of 4 feet, 6 inches. Her wide beam and shoal draft, typical of the bugeye type, is ideally suited for oyster dredging on the shallow waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
