About this Event
The DouglassWeek Organization and The African American Department sponsors a creative writing workshop that invites writers to engage with the life, words and legacy of Frederick Douglass through poetry and prose.
- During the session, participants will explore themes drawn from Douglass’s writings, his family’s activism and the broader tradition of changemakers who have worked toward freedom, justice and equality. Through guided prompts, and discussion the workshop will encourage both experienced writers and first-time participants to reflect on history through their own voices.
- The workshop will conclude with a public reading in which participants are invited to share the poems they have created during the session. This closing moment celebrates creativity, community and the power of language to connect past and present.
