Don’t Be So Political is a monthly film series that engages with films through a political lens. Each screening is preceded by an expert Q&A. Hosted by Zach Wortzman
“You’ll have to speak up, I don’t see very well.”
After losing the 13 Colonies to the newly formed United States of America, King George III appears also to lose his mind. While his allies seek to heal him and run the empire, his enemies seek to usurp him and take power. Mostly unbothered by all that, the King is more concerned with frolicking, fighting, and…. The colour of his urine.
A look into what happens when a nation in crisis happens to be led by a madman. Sound familiar?
This is a pre-American-election special presentation where we will discuss the possibility of what the world might look like if a crazy person is made the most powerful person on earth. Again. Just as King George III was in the late 1700s.
Based on the 1991 play The Madness of King George III, the film was nominated for four Oscars, Best Actor for Nigel Hawthorne, Best Supporting Actress for Helen Mirren, Best Adapted Screenplay for Alan Bennett, and won for Best Art Direction.
