Donation Kirtan: Songs of Devotion with Sheela Shankar

Bhakti, the path of devotion, permeates every spiritual tradition of India, and music lies at the heart of this living practice. Kirtan, songs of praise, are devotional chants sung in surrender to the spirit that moves through all of life.

It is often said that music breaks all barriers. In India, the music of devotion, longing, and joy has offered a direct path to the divine for centuries, transcending ritual, social hierarchy, gender, and intellectual thought.

Each region of India holds its own rich traditions of kirtan and devotional music. In this workshop, Sheela will introduce songs of the great Bhakti saints Meera, Tulsidas, Kabir, and Surdas. Participants will learn simple chants and be invited to sing together in a joyful and welcoming atmosphere.
