Join The Henry Ford for an evening at Southfield Public Library as we share about the Dr. Sullivan and Mrs. Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson Home, opening in Greenfield Village this June.
Hear from curators, collections experts and a librarian of genealogy to learn how everyday Americans contribute to “doing history” by preserving, sharing and honoring their family legacies — just as the Jackson family did in Selma, Alabama. Their home, which served as a safe haven for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders, played a pivotal role in the Selma to Montgomery marches and the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Jacksons’ commitment to preserving their home and its stories is a powerful reminder that history lives not only in archives, but in living rooms, photo albums and oral traditions.
Capacity is limited. Please RSVP at https://southfieldlibrary.org/calendar-of-events/#/events/Of3tqRdhcV/instances/v8MuD1pqsw/.
