NEWPORT & THE GREAT FOLK DREAM
UK Premiere + Q&A
Before Coachella, even before Woodstock, there was Newport. From 1963 to 1966, the Newport Folk Festival became a crucible for protest, cultural change and musical revolution, as performers including Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger and the Freedom Singers helped a generation find its voice. Drawing entirely on rare archival footage, filmmakers Robert Gordon and Joe Lauro celebrate America's musical diversity, from gospel and Delta blues to traditional folk, and the platform Newport offered those traditions. Newport & The Great Folk Dream captures a defining moment when music illuminated struggle, inspired courage and ignited controversy.
▷ UK Premiere + Q&A with Dir. Robert Gordon and Joe Boyd
▷ 29 October, 5:45 PM at BFI IMAX
