Nevada City has a magnetic pulse. It’s one that has been surging since the gold rush and built up to a fever pitch in present times. There’s a man known as DJ Fossil who encapsulates the eclectic vibe of this one-of-a-kind region. His progressive sound and commitment to his craft are channeled into an intoxicating alchemy of vinyl wizardry. Deep-cut funk and rare grooves fuel the steam engine of his train, while intoxicating soul, conscious hip-hop, world beats and other obscurities are ready to be dropped on a dime. A unified feeling takes hold whenever Fossil is in the house. He is a passionate ambassador for those carrying the torch for turntable artistry. He can also scratch like a MF…invoking the glory days of early turntable slayers.
This is one of those nights showcasing the unique range of musical offerings this small community has to present. Many will be attending Moontricks at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley. Others will be enjoying Sam Grisman Project at the Miner’s Foundry.
