Put down the red hots and candy hearts and come celebrate this Hallmark holiday with one of Nevada County’s most talented bands. We’re calling it a Soul Seduction and it will be evident why when Vibeyard tap in to their love potion of funk, soul, reggae, jazz and improvised eclectica.
Guitarist/Vocalist JB Eckl is a grizzled veteran of LA’s funk, rock and Latin scenes. His touring and producing credits include War, Santana, Ozomatli and Buena Vista Social Club along with many others. The thought of subbing the band’s regular bassist Pancho Tomaselli would be less than ideal if it wasn’t for his replacement on this occasion being Justin Purtill. This Berklee School of Music grad is an elite operative in his seemingly effortless mastery of his instrument. He has the Midas touch of funk and all-around magic. When he’s not touring the world with Residente, he’s often collaborating with acclaimed guitarist Stu Allen or producing his own music.
The not-so-secret weapon of the trio is Tim Bulkley on drums. His dazzling approach is the stylistic equivalent of riding the nose of a longboard on a perfectly cresting, four-footer at Cape St. Francis with no one out (an “Endless Summer” reference, just in case). Rich in subtleties, spacious grooves and deep pockets, Tim’s playing feels akin to the lush splendor of Monet’s painting.
Having a group of instrumental ninjas counts for a lot. Factor in Eckl’s sublime vocal talent matched with his buttery guitar tone allows the band the freedom to explore a treasure trove of soulful classics and rarities. Every cover song they do, from Bob Marley to Curtis Mayfield and even Frank Sinatra, is completely reinvented in such a creative way. They’ll be busting out some extra special covers to match the spirit of the night.
Since the last time they were here they've written new original music and it’s quite possible they’ll even craft their next song before our very eyes. When Vibeyard is in the house, you never know which guests might show up, elevating the music to unforeseen heights! Whether you’re coming alone or with your sweetie, this Soul Seduction will have everyone walking away feeling kissed by the collective groove.
