Learn how to create your own audio visual controllers! 2 sessions: August 1st and 2nd 12-4pm
About this Event

Over this two-day workshop, you'll be taught the fundamentals of building your own analog controller and how to connect it to audio-visual outputs. The workshop is open to all abilities and no prior experience with electronics or code is needed.

Using open-source tools like Arduino and Processing, we'll design and build our own DIY control devices alongside how to be experimental with the outputs we create.

This workshop is open to participants over the age of 16 years.

Day 1 — Building Your Controller

• Introduction to simple electronics

• Building your own circuit

• Making your controller

Day 2 — Bringing It to Life

• Creating graphics with code

• Connecting your controller

• Expanding your visuals with audio

Equipment:

Please bring a laptop to the workshop.

If you do not have a laptop and this is a barrier to accessing the workshop, please get in touch as we have a small number of devices available to loan.

Info about me:

This workshop is led by Jen Sykes, a creative technologist and educator based in Glasgow. Having graduated from the MFA in Computational Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2012, her work spans interactive art installations, digital service design, and the fabrication of educational electronic hardware. She is the co-founder of Considerate Digital, a multidisciplinary studio that brings design and engineering together to take ideas from concept to prototype. Recent work includes the Turner Prize at Tate Britain, Government Digital Services, Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art, and Sonica Festival.

Jen has lectured in Physical Computing, Interactive Prototyping, and Creative Applications of Machine Learning, teaching internationally at UAL's Creative Computing Institute, Glasgow School of Art, the Royal Danish Academy and the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.
