Diwali Kickoff Party

Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, is an annual holiday that brings people together from across India and the world to celebrate goodness and knowledge with neighbors. This year Diwali returns to the CMA — South Carolina’s only international art museum — with dancing, shopping, food, chai, and art activities.
Throw on some colorful clothes and dance to Bollywood and Bhangra tunes provided by Bhangra Vibes. Learn about the meaning behind Diwali at an information table. Participate in activities including Bhangra and Bollywood dance tutorials from Gruv Dance Academy and regional dances from India, rangoli design instruction from folk artist Jugnu Verma, and painting your own diya (clay lamp). Get a stylized henna tattoo from local artists. Take a photo with friends at a Bollywood-themed photo booth. Shop local Indian clothing vendors. Enjoy Indian food favorites for purchase from LOTA and Persis Biryani Indian Grill.
Diwali activities are free. Gallery admission is free with membership or admission. Galleries open until 7:00 p.m.
