The Science of Fit - 3M

1pm – 4pm

$195

$195 Summit Special

Regulations require employers to provide all workers with PPE that not only offers appropriate protection for the task but also fits properly. Specific regulatory requirements exist for respiratory protection fit testing; however, HSE professionals also have a responsibility to ensure that hearing, head, eye, and fall protection devices fit employees. Often fit testing is accomplished on each individual article of PPE and is not always considering how well PPE fits when worn together. Moreover there is the new CFR 1926.95(c) requiring construction employers to provide PPE that properly fits each worker.

To help obtain the most benefit from your PPE program, addressing these concerns may help encourage employees to wear PPE the entire time they are exposed to hazards. This interactive session on PPE fit can help inform employers of the key considerations when choosing PPE for the variety of people in today's workforce. In this session, we will explore

regulation changes, technologies that impact fit, strategies to help in selection, considerations for helping to assess if PPE works together, and fit testing techniques for several types of PPE. This session will include demonstrations for different types of fit assessments including respiratory, head and eye, and hearing, and best practices for proper selection, sizing, and donning of fall protection systems. Respiratory Protection: (compatibility with other PPE, ability to communicate),Fit Testing (Qualitative vs Quantitative) Demonstrate a free mobile app.

Hearing protection: Demonstration of hearing protector fit testing, tips for selection and fitting techniques. Research on impact of attenuation changes with combinations of earmuffs and eyewear.

Eyewear: 4 steps for assessing eye wear fit: View, Security, Coverage, and Gap Assessments. Fall Protection: Provide best practice tips for assessing fit of fall harnesses: sizing, donning and training techniques.

Learning Outcomes: List 2 ways to help encourage employees to wear PPE consistently when exposed to hazards. Identify 4 methods that firms can implement to help assess PPE fit for their work force.

A Return to the Basics of Safety Management

1pm – 4pm

$495

$295 Summit Special

In today’s safety landscape, professionals are inundated with new theories, tools, and initiatives—each promising better results. While many of these innovations add value, they can also create distraction, complexity, and diminishing returns when the fundamentals are overlooked.

As Vince Lombardi famously said, “Excellence is achieved by mastery of the fundamentals.” This session challenges participants to refocus on what has always driven meaningful safety improvement: reducing unsafe acts and improving unsafe conditions.

This highly practical, 4-hour workshop introduces a simple, two-part framework that delivers immediate and measurable impact. Participants will examine how years of layered programs may have diluted their effectiveness—and how a return to core principles can restore clarity, engagement, and results.

Attendees will learn how to build the skill of working safely within their workforce and how to implement a structured, sustainable approach to continuously improving workplace conditions through the CIRCLE Method.

Whether you are an experienced safety leader or newer to the field, this session offers a powerful reset—equipping you with practical tools you can apply immediately to elevate performance and drive lasting change.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Reduce unsafe acts by teaching employees the skill of working safely using a structured, repeatable approach
  2. Reduce unsafe conditions by applying the CIRCLE Method to drive continuous risk reduction
  3. Deliver more effective training that improves retention, engagement, and daily application on the job
  4. Engage frontline supervisors as active leaders in safety, transforming them into true safety champions

Participants learn to identify, assess, and document potential exposures to physical and chemical hazards, with emphasis on core concepts such as routes of exposure, exposure limits, basic sampling techniques, and proper use of monitoring equipment.

The course offers step-by-step guidance on preparing for and conducting air and noise sampling. Using real-world scenarios, participants interpret exposure data and apply their findings to support workplace safety and regulatory compliance.

Key topics include air sampling methods, noise monitoring practices, and proper instrument calibration. Participants also receive an overview of exposure limit frameworks from organizations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
