Join the Hive Mind Books and Poets Out Loud community for Disturbing the Peace, a poetry reading and open mic series to uplift marginalized voices and fundraise for a better world. This month, we’re raising funds for Bushwick City Farms.

Disturbing the Peace borrows its name from James Baldwin’s essay “The Creative Process” in which he calls artists “the incorrigible disturber(s) of the peace.” We see poetry as essential to disrupting the status quo, and we want you to disrupt it with us.

Disturbing the Peace is free to attend, but we suggest a minimum $10 donation, with all funds going to Bushwick City Farms. NOTAFLOF. Sign up opens at 6:30, reading begins at 7. Come share your poetry and build community!

Bushwick City Farms is a mutual aid organization that builds and maintains vegetable gardens for local public schools, hosts school field trips and local service groups, holds free beginner’s English classes, and coordinates with local businesses to distribute bread and fresh produce donations. Their future is in jeopardy for the support it offers to migrants and asylum seekers and it needs our help to reopen!

Hive Mind Books is a queer and trans bookstore and coffee shop in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
