About this Event

The Walters Art Museum offers different types of FREE in-person for grades PreK-12. Please complete this registration form to reserve a Discovery Visit for your school group.

During a Discovery Visit, you can explore the galleries at your own pace, participate in interactive activities at Discovery Carts throughout the museum, and drop by the art-making station. Our Discovery Carts are:

  • Visit the Past: Students can explore ancient cultures by completing a scavenger hunt, interacting with multisensory materials and playing games. Through this interactive experience, students will learn about ancient peoples’ daily routines and compare their own lives to those who lived long ago. Located on the 2nd floor lobby of our Centre St building. Recommended grades 2-12.
  • Postcard from an Artwork: Students can practice their empathy and creative writing skills by writing a postcard from the perspective of a portrait or landscape. Located on the 3rd floor lobby of our Centre St building. Recommended grades 2-12.
  • Conservation Station: Students can learn about the science that goes into caring for objects in the museum by completing a scavenger hunt, trying their own conservation skills out, and speaking to an actual museum conservator at our conservation window. Located on the 4th floor lobby of Centre St building. Recommended grades 2-12.
  • Art Remixes: Students can choose a historical artwork on display that they are inspired by and remix that object by creating their own, unique version. Located on the Sculpture Court of our Charles St building. Recommended grades PreK-12.

All school programs at the Walters are free thanks to the generosity of our visitors. Please consider a donation of $12 per student for your tour group.

The Walters is pleased to offer a limited number of bus reimbursements for Title I schools throughout the state of Maryland, for partial or full bus expenses. For more information, please contact [email protected].
