About this Event
Welcome to MAIA’s first Disabled Offers and Needs Market at The Signing Tree.
As disabled folks, we often have to engage with one-sided, dehumanising systems in order to get our basic needs met. This event aims to disrupt this, building on the tradition of crip-mutual aid. By radically sharing our passions, knowledge, resources and needs, we can build communities with care, acceptance and vulnerability woven into their core.
This will be a heartfelt, relaxed, practical session, where we’ll be guided to identify what we have to offer our communities, and reflect on the things we would like to ask for support with. There will be an option to share these offers and asks with other participants. As well as building capacity for practical support, this is also a chance to practice expressing our value and interconnectivity.
This event is primarily for people who identify as disabled. The runtime is 3 hours, including a 45 min break for food (provided) and time to chat and connect with peers at the end. It will be facilitated by MAIA’s Disability Justice lead Hazel Sealeaf and artist-facilitator Chloë Lund.
