About this Event

Got a great idea for screen but don’t know where to start? This practical, no-nonsense workshop is designed to help theatre-makers and emerging storytellers take their ideas from the stage and adapt them for film and TV.

Whether you're just screen-curious or ready to take the leap, you’ll break down the essentials of screen-based storytelling - with a focus on creativity and industry smarts. Led by Tamasha’s very own Digital Producer, Daljinder Johal.

Who’s it for?

  • Writers and writer-directors who want to make screen-based work (especially if you're new to screen)
  • Theatre-makers looking to expand their storytelling skills
  • Producers supporting emerging screen talent

What will you cover?

Section 1: Screen 101

  • Is your idea right for the screen?
  • Adapting stories from stage to screen – creatively and practically
  • Budgets, scope, character depth: What works for film vs. TV?
  • How production companies operate
  • General meetings (“generals”) – what they are and how to nail them
  • TV/Film networking tips
  • Distribution: how your work gets seen

Section 2: Speak the Language

  • What’s everyone talking about? Get familiar with screenwriting terminology
  • The key documents: Pitch decks, spec scripts, pilot scripts
  • Real-world examples and templates

Section 3: Getting Momentum

  • Agents, managers: When and why you might need one
  • How to share your work (festivals, awards, online platforms)
  • Where to find support (e.g. ScreenSkills and beyond)

Hands-on Exercises

  • Craft a logline for your project and get peer feedback
  • Draft your own pitch deck with tips and templates

What will you take away?

  • A solid understanding of how to adapt ideas for screen
  • A polished logline for your project
  • A checklist for pitching and production meetings
  • Confidence and clarity about your next steps into film and TV

What will I need?

  • Your own laptop
  • A free Canva account
  • An example project you’re excited about
