About this Event

What is it?

Digital Skills 4 Girls is a monthly workshop for girls and non-binary young people aged 10 - 17 who want to learn new digital skills or develop existing skills. From coding and gaming to digital design and video, DS4G is a friendly and supportive environment to learn new skills and meet new friends.

What will I learn?

In this hands-on workshop, you'll build your very own game in Scratch, and then bring it to life with sound! We'll explore the basics of sound design: what makes a "good" sound effect, how sound shapes the feel of a game, and how tiny audio choices (a ding, a thud, a whoosh) can make gameplay way more fun.
You'll get hands-on experience recording your own original sound effects using everyday objects and your voice, then import and trigger those sounds inside a Scratch project. By the end of the session, you'll walk away with a playable game featuring sound effects you designed and recorded yourself.
No coding or audio experience needed! This workshop builds confidence in both technical skills (block-based coding, basic audio editing) and creative problem-solving, in a supportive environment.
What you will learn:
• Scratch basics: sprites, events, loops and sound blocks
• Sound design fundamentals: pitch, timing and how sound affects mood/gameplay
• How to record and edit simple sound effects
• How to import and sync custom audio into a Scratch project
Takeaway: A finished, playable Scratch game with original sound effects you made yourself.
