Award-winning photographers Shirley Whitenack and Richard St. Peter will be leading a three-day workshop, titled Digital Photography 102: Finding Your Focus, at Dare Arts March 27-29, 2025.This class is designed to be an immersive experience encouraging you to hone your photo skills while trying new techniques. Shirley and Richard will teach you to take control of your camera to learn the amazing images your camera will reveal.
Participants should have a comfortable working knowledge of their cameras. Compositional techniques to include utilizing directional light, point of focus, identifying power points, and depth of field (blurred, soft background vs. detailed, sharp background) will be taught. There will also be time devoted to intentional camera movement (ICM) and long-exposure techniques. This is your opportunity to learn how to fully utilize manual mode. On Saturday afternoon, your select images will be projected to be enjoyed by your fellow photographers.
What to bring: Camera(s), lenses, battery charger, instruction manual, digital media, flash drive. Please bring tripod for low-light photography and a laptop to download your images for review. A neutral density filter is highly recommended. Each participant will receive photography handouts to keep for future reference.

March 27- 6:00pm-7:30pm: Duck boardwalk - Evening photo shoot
March 28
- 8:00am-10:00am: Wanchese – Morning photo shoot
- 11:00am-4:00pm: Dare Arts & Fort Raleigh – Discuss, download, and review images. Demonstration and practice with ICM and long-exposure techniques. Ft. Raleigh photo shoot will emphasize ICM.
- 6:00pm-7:30pm: Avalon Fishing Pier – Evening Photo Shoot (long exposure and ICM))
March 29
- 7:30am-9:30am: Pea Island Lifesaving Station – Morning photo shoot
- 10:00-3:00pm: Dare Arts – Q&A. Download images. Project images for discussion & critique.

Dare Arts Members- $220.00
Non Member- $230.00

***The first four people who register will each receive a personalized 16GB thumbdrive. Each person will
also be entered into a drawing for a photo book valued at $50.00.
Payment must be made in advance via credit card on the Dare Arts website at DareArts.org/workshops.
Preregistration is required. There must be 5 participants signed up for class to take place. Class is limited to 10 students. Class is open to students aged high school to adult.
Cancellation policy: Registrations cannot be transferred to future workshops. No-shows will not receive a refund. If you need to cancel for any reason, we will only refund you if we are able to fill the spot. If we are forced to reschedule/cancel the workshop for any reason, we will contact you directly about the new date or refund.
Instructor's Bios: Both Shirley and Richard have been photographing for over 50 years each and have earned the Fellow of Photography degree from Virginia Professional Photographers Association. Shirley is also a lifetime
member of Professional Photographers of America.
