Tenor Elias Wilson and Pianist Stacey Yang present Schumann’s stunning lieder cycle, ‘Dichterliebe’ (A Poet’s Love) at The Armidale Playhouse on Saturday the 25th of January at 7pm. The rich German poetry of Heinrich Heine’s ‘Lyrisches Intermezzo’ explores the the depths of love and loss, and is set to music by 19th century composer Robert Schumann, one of the great masters of early romantic repertoire.
The song cycle, performed in its entirety, will be accompanied by a performance of an earlier work of German song, ‘Adelaide’ by Ludwig van Beethoven, and two songs by English composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams, which explored similarly romantic ideas before and after Dichterliebe.
This performance is presented by The Armidale Playhouse and Melba Opera Trust alumni Elias Wilson and Stacey Yang, and is generously supported by the John & Elizabeth Wright-Smith Alumni Grant.
