About this Event
REGISTRATION AVAILABLE BEGINNING MAY 17TH
Chicago for Chicagoans is delighted to announce the return of our 2.5-hour walk exploring the Devon Multicultural District, a richly diverse area of West Ridge often misrepresented as "Little India" — led by local resident Bundev Sawhney! Bundev is a tour guide, refugee advocate, and passionate bicyclist who's excited to showcase one of his favorite neighborhoods and share his love of demographic history.
Beginning at the SW corner of Mather Park, the tour will cover history, architecture, and contemporary developments of a community known for its distinctive South Asian culture and thriving commercial corridors. From its early beginnings as a Jewish enclave, to its mid-twentieth-century emergence as a destination for vegetarian cusine, saris, and spices, you'll learn stories of landmark businesses, discover cultures from around the world, and explore a well-hidden gem of the Chicago Park District. The afternoon will end at D-4 Cafe & Bar, where participants are encouraged to join the group for an authentic meal of Bosnian cuisine!

Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
