Mae’r sesiwn hon wedi ei chynllunio i gefnogi cynorthwyr addysgu i ddatblygu rhuglder ac annibyniaeth darllen dysgwyr. Gan adeiladu ar seiliau ffoneg, bydd y sesiwn yn canolbwyntio ar helpu disgyblion i ddarllen gyda mwy o gywirdeb, cyflymder, mynegiant a dealltwriaeth.

Overview

This practical and engaging session is designed to support teaching assistants in developing learners’ reading fluency and independence. Building on phonics foundations, the session focuses on helping pupils read with increasing accuracy, pace, expression and understanding.

Teaching assistants will explore effective strategies such as modelled, echo and repeated reading to build confidence and automaticity. The session will also develop questioning skills, introducing simple approaches to deepen comprehension and support discussion about texts.

Opportunities for discussion, practice and reflection will enable participants to consider how to support a range of learners and address common barriers to reading. A key focus will be on promoting independence, ensuring support enables learners to take increasing ownership of their reading over time.

Target Audience

  • Teaching Assistants supporting reading across primary and secondary phases
  • Particularly those delivering interventions, guided reading or additional support

Session Aims

  • Develop understanding of reading fluency and progression beyond phonics
  • Explore practical strategies to support fluency and confidence
  • Strengthen questioning skills to support comprehension
  • Support learners to become increasingly independent readers
  • Promote consistent, high-quality reading support across settings

Funding:

A funding allocation of £100 per day per school is available to support attendance. Please note that funded places are limited.
