Developing Peer Support in Schools

This session is a workshop aimed at Lancashire school staff who wish to develop peer support or mentoring in their school. It may be especially relevant for mental health leads, SENCOs, pastoral leads, mentors, or any other staff with specific responsibility for pupils’ emotional health.

This training day will introduce ideas and models for developing peer support for emotional health and wellbeing in your school.

We will talk about ways in which schools can embed peer support principles and systems to help them be resilience-promoting environments, in order to support students' wellbeing.

What you will gain from this training:

• information and discussion time around the importance and effectiveness of peer support for emotional health and resilience.
• effective evidence-based strategies and practical resources you can use.
• dedicated workshop time to consider how to implement peer support ideas at your school.

You will be given practical strategies and resources to use with pupils that have been shown to be effective, including training exercises which can be used with peer supporters.

All slides and resources, and additional training materials, will be available to download after the session, to enable you to cascade the training within their school settings.

The training is fully funded by LCC for anyone working in primary and secondary schools in Lancashire, and is fully funded by Lancashire County Council.

PLEASE NOTE: this training session is only available to staff employed by schools and colleges within the Lancashire County Council area. Places will not be allocated to people employed by other services or who work in schools outside this area.
