Listen to Yaqui Deer Songs being performed, watch a ceremonial Deer Dance, and enjoy tradtional Yaqui foods, while learning the history of ths tribe . The Pascua Yaqui (Yoeme), are based on the border near Tucson, Arizona, with their ancestral homelands in Sonora, Mexico. Their presence in Sonora is traced back to the year 500 A.D. Despite enduring encroacment on their lands, slavery, and massacres, by Spanish, Mexican and U.S. governments, their ancient traditions like their deer songs and ceremonial deer dances survive to this day. In the 1970s under President Jimmy Carter, the Pascua Yaqui became a U.S. federally-recognized tribe.
