SPEAKERS
Alastair Hamilton, Senior Director,
Econic Biosciences is pioneering new ways to eradicate cancer by targeting a largely unexplored oncogenic driver. Extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) is a little-known but widespread driver of oncogenic DNA amplification, which contributes to cancer’s evolution in unprecedented ways. It is found across most cancer types and its presence is associated with poor clinical outcomes. Econic Biosciences is building on novel mechanistic insights to develop specific approaches to therapeutically target ecDNA with the goal of improving treatment for individuals with cancer.
Alastair has worked in consulting for the likes of Gartner and LEK and in industry, for AstraZeneca, before joining Econic. He has a DPhil in Systems Biology, Oncology from Oxford University.
Koji Muto, Co-Founder & CEO at
Ki Hydrogen's mission is to make biomass the premier green resource, using biomass electrolysis to create the world’s most affordable green hydrogen and biogenic carbon as key building blocks for chemistry, products, and fuels that power a decarbonised world.
Koji has experience from industry, including as an engineer for ExxonMobile, followed by time at Last Energy (reimagining nuclear) and NeoCarbon (direct air capture) before joining the Carbon13 venture builder as a co-founder of Ki Hydrogen.
Leo Kremer, Maria Guerrero Jimenez and Mele Gadzama, Co-founders, Marigold: AI-enhanced audio filtering for misophonia
Misophonia is a condition where specific sounds trigger strong emotional reactions, significantly affecting daily life. It can especially affect those with autism.
Leo Kremer (Dyson School of Design Engineering), Maria Guerrero Jimenez and Mele Gadzama (Department of Physics) from Team Marigold are the winners of the Faculty of Natural Sciences Make-A-Difference (FoNS-MAD) competition. This is an annual entrepreneurial competition open to Imperial undergraduates and gives all finalist teams funding, lab space and a bursary to work on a proof-of-concept over the summer.
Linden Schrecker, Founder & Ceo at
SOLVE Chemistry specialises in improving chemical processes, driving both efficiency and sustainability. Through their innovative
data collection and machine learning approaches, we deliver flexible future proof solutions for superior results.
The spin-out has been launched by Imperial College London and global chemical company BASF under an innovative partnership model with funding from BASF subsidiary Chemovator in a pre-seed round led by venture capital firm Creator Fund. The technology is based on techniques that Dr Linden Schrecker developed as a PhD student at Imperial’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generation Synthesis and Reaction Technology (REACT CDT).
Nick Moser, Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer,
Spun out of Imperial College London in March 2020, ProtonDx ambition is to ensure tests can be conducted quickly, accurately and cost effectively, wherever and whenever they are needed throughout the world so that all can benefit from advances in technology.
Dr. Nicolas Moser is a co‑founder and CTO of PDx. He earned an MSc at Imperial College London with distinction and received the Hertha Ayrton Centenary Prize (best MSc project) and the MSc Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuit Design Outstanding Achievement Prize (highest ranking MSc student). He was awarded an EPSRC PhD Scholarship with the High Performance Embedded and Distributed Systems (HiPEDS) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) and pursued a PhD at the Centre for Bio‑Inspired Technology, Imperial College London, where he developed new methods for microchip‑based ion imaging. At the end of his PhD, he was awarded the EPSRC postdoctoral fellowship to pursue point‑of‑care devices towards rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases. He has pursued several entrepreneurial programmes including the Imperial College Techcelerate programme and the MedTech SuperConnector. He received the best poster at the All‑You‑Can‑Innovate conference and the CASS COVID‑19 Entrepreneur Award. He is the author of 39 publications and 2 patents.
