Dearbourne Park Pollinator Habitat Stewardship Event

Join us for a community stewardship event at the Dearbourne Park Pollinator Habitat. 🌸🐝 This in-person event will take place on Thursday, September 10th, 2025 from 5:30 pm-7:00pm (Eastern Daylight Time).

Bring your family and friends to help us maintain this vibrant and welcoming space for our local pollinators. Phase one and two are blooming tall and in need of maintenance to ensure that the native species will continue to thrive!

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, everyone is welcome to participate in this hands-on experience. We will be focusing on the following tasks:

  • Removing weeds and grass from within Phase 2 of the habitat
  • mulching around the border and within the seating area
  • removing invasive species (including Black Medic, Bindweed and Thistle),
  • and mulching around the plants! 🌼🦋

Snacks and water will be provided. There will be tools available to borrow but bringing your own is welcome.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants as this area is naturalising and home to many insects.

Volunteer Hours are available for high-school students.

Parking information will be email in the event reminder.

Additional Project Information:

In 2018, the City of Brampton launched the Don’t Mow, Let it Grow initiative that focuses on converting select areas of public land covered by turf grass into pollinator habitats and meadows. This initiative will help beautify Brampton and make it a more healthy, resilient and environmentally sustainable city.

In Spring 2022, a significant milestone was achieved when Dearbourne Park was selected as the first No Mow site within a neighbourhood park. In Summer 2022, the site received overwhelming community support during an August open house, leading to its designation as a pilot project.

The purpose of this pilot is to establish a community-led project that focuses on creating and maintaining pollinator habitats in local neighbourhoods, while also providing opportunities for learning about pollinators, biodiversity, and habitat building through the formation of a volunteer community group.

Through this project the City aspires to foster a sense of environmental stewardship among local residents and promote ecological well-being for generations to come.

The phase one area was planted during a community event in September 2023, with more plants added in May 2024. Phase two was planted in September 2025 and Phase three was hand seeded in Fall 2025 and is blooming beautifully.
